Dental Hygienist

At East Mews Dental Care, we have a team of highly skilled and experienced dental hygienists and dental therapists. They are here to look after your oral health, providing patients with routine hygiene visits and helping with periodontal disease.

For patients who have stained teeth (tea, coffee, smoking, red wine all contributes to this) our hygienist can provide a specialist ‘airflow’ scaling which removes stains quickly and easily.

A large proportion of the population suffers unknowingly from gum-related problems because the signs are often painless and individuals are hence unaware that anything is amiss.

Over time, gum illness will typically cause teeth quality to scale back and eventually the loss of the affected teeth. Gum illness is caused by a build of microorganism that stays within the plaque and calculus(tartar) on your teeth. We consider the diagnosis and prevention of gum disease a priority. Healthy gums are the inspiration for all the work we do.

Our highly trained and motivated works closely with our patients to realize the absolute best results possible.
With your co-operation and our expertise, skill, and delicate techniques, we’ll assist you to take care of a healthy mouth and keep your teeth for all times.

Why dental hygiene is important for all

Gum disease is the leading reason for tooth loss. Most adults will have some inflammation in their gums at some point in their lives.

Gum health is so vital to the health of our teeth and there are also links to general health including cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Professional and friendly dental hygienists

At East Mews, we focus on gum health. Our dentists and dental hygienists work together to create a personalised plan to improve and maintain your gum health.

This is achieved through thorough dental cleaning and giving you the tools, knowledge and motivation on how to look after your gums at home in between visits with the use of interdental cleaning, which is highly important in maintaining healthy gums.

Dental Hygiene FAQs

The role of a dental hygienist is to help you maintain healthy gums and to give your teeth an intensive clean. They will also show you how to take care of your teeth at home.

A dental hygiene appointment will remove any stubborn tartar and plaque and improve the health of your gums. Not taking care of your gums can lead to gum disease and the loss of teeth.

Your dentist will advise how often seeing a hygienist would be beneficial. Usually 6 monthly appointments but depending on gum health this could be more regularly. Someone with active gum disease may need to be seen every 3 or 4 months.
You might notice that your gums are bleeding when you brush your teeth or you have bad breath, these can be signs of gum disease. Attending regular 6 monthly check-ups with your dentist will highlight any issues you may be having with your gums.
